NitroGen™ miniature liquid nitrogen generator for MRI applications

The Woodlands, TX — July 10, 2002.  At PittCon 2002 in New Orleans, LA, Rigaku introduced the NitroGen miniature liquid nitrogen (LN2) generator. This self-contained one-box solution, for point-of-use generation, storage, and transfer, is designed to solve the multiple problems of cryogen availability, transport, inventory, and handling. Requiring only electricity to operate (in some configurations), the unique packaging, capacity, and options are specifically tailored to serving the needs of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) community.

As first generation MRI devices are dependant upon a supply of LN2 for their operation (up to 25 liters/day), availability can become a critical issue. Whether a remote or rural location makes supplies uncertain, or if the physical layout of a facility makes internal movement of dewars difficult and time consuming, the NitroGen system can solve the problem by generating LN2 when and where it is needed. The system is designed to solve the cryogenic liquid needs of rural critical access hospitals (CAH), or medical imaging centers, wishing to extend the life of, and reduce the operating burden associated with, their older MRI machines. About the size of a dormitory refrigerator, NitroGen is available in several configurations, with generating capacities ranging to 58 liters per day.
