X-ray fluorescence technology provides one of the simplest, most accurate and most economic analytical methods for the determination of the chemical composition of many types of materials. It is non-destructive and reliable, requires no, or very little, sample preparation and is suitable for solid, liquid and powdered samples. It can be used for a wide range of elements, from beryllium (4) to uranium (92), and provides detection limits at the ppm level; it can also precisely measure concentrations of up to 100%.

Petroleum analysis by XRF

For the quantification of everything from heavy elements in crude oil, to additive packages in lubricants, to sulfur in gasoline and diesel, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is a well established technique for the petroleum and petrochemical industries. Because of new sulfur regulations for road fuels, Rigaku now offers a dedicated low-cost benchtop WDXRF sulfur analyzer: the Mini-Z Sulfur Analyzer

Rigaku's Petro-Pak™ Application Package* is designed to implement ASTM 2622, ASTM 5059 and ASTM 6334 compliant methods for all hydrocarbon based fuels on specific Rigaku instruments.

In addition to these products, Rigaku's technology and know-how provide a number of unique solutions for this application category:

  • Inverted or standard optics depending on application
  • Optimized sample holders for gasoline
  • No digestion or wet chemistry prep
  • Low detection limits
  • Excellent light element (low-Z) sensitivity
  • Analysis without standards (or few)

Please contact Rigaku to request a copy of the available application notes about petroleum analysis.

* Note: Petro-Pak is only available in North America
